In 1986 the Samantha Smith Foundation cosponsored, with Ted Turner's Goodwill Games Project, an international youth art competition for Soviet and American children and a journey to the Soviet Union for twenty of Samantha's eighth-grade classmates from Manchester, Maine.

 

In 1986 Jane Smith returned to the Soviet Union with a group of Samantha's classmates. Here she is greeted by Natasha Kashirina (left) in Leningrad's "House of Friendship and Peace with the Peoples of Foreign Countries."
